Spray Booth Extraction Systems

Products such as paints and thinners are classed by the HSE as VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). The HSE’s 'HSG140: Safe Use and Handling of Flammable Liquids' guidance requires sufficient ventilation to extract vapours when handling flammable liquids, keeping exposure below the applicable limits. HSE's 'HSG276: Isocyanate Paint Spraying' guidance also warns that inhaling isocyanate paint mist can cause occupational asthma. To address these concerns, the HSE recommends using local exhaust ventilation (LEV) to capture solvent fumes and overspray. This can significantly improve air quality in your workshop, safely discharging extracted air.

A spray booth extraction system draws the paint-laden air from the spray booth, catching paint fumes and droplets in the filter paper. Typically, paint extraction filter media is made from specially designed paper that covers the width of the spray booth. The filter paper has an accordion fold and is one, two or three layers deep, effectively capturing fumes. On average paint extraction units collect up to 80-90% of dry overspray dust leaving the chamber clean of paint fumes.
