Dust Extraction Systems

The basic principles of a dust extraction system are simple: to capture, filter and separate dust particles and then release sanitised air. In industrial and manufacturing environments, the ability to filter and discharge clean air is highly important. Without it, the safety of a facility’s workforce is compromised.

A generic vacuum cleaner will be effective against light duty dust with lower levels of toxicity. As the severity of risk increases, as is the case with Class M dust, the demand on the system is heightened. If you are trying to remove hard wood, concrete or brick dust, for example, you will need a higher rate extraction system. For carcinogenic particles, you will need a Class H extraction unit.

Class M dust extraction systems offer a 99.9% degree of filtration, and should be used for clearing hazards in the workplace that pose a moderate risk. Examples of what can be tackled include: wood dust, clear coats, concrete and latex/ oil based paints.

L Class extraction is required for dust particles that present the lowest risk to the operator. L Class dust extraction systems, therefore, are considered entry level systems that help to mitigate low risk dust with small levels of toxicity. An L Class dust extraction system will catch 99% of dust that has a grain size of under 2 microns.
